News: Vernon Hotel Book Signing Rock Opera

On Saturday January 29 the Makers will be appearing at the Vernon Hotel in Worcester, MA and this will prove to be a very special evening. Shamus will be signing copies of his latest novel “Treehugger” (which can be purchased at Amazon.com; barnesandnoble.com & authorhouse.com) In addition, the real Treehugger and the man who inspired the novel, Matthew Largess will be there as well. The book signing will take place from 7-9 and the Makers are then on til closing time!

For starters, we’re playing in the Ship Room which was allegedly designed by THE Burl Ives (you know, of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer fame). In any case, it’s a funky room designed like the inside of a ship with plenty of the appropriate décor. The Vernon Hotel was also a prohibition-era speakeasy and rumor has it if you ask real nicely you can get a tour of the actual speakeasy in the basement. But it gets better. Apparently this place used to be a flophouse as well and local lore tells of a prostitute buried in a wall. And then there are those who like to visit this Worcester landmark to study paranormal activity. Plenty of mystery, myth & intrigue surround the Vernon Hotel.

So we have to take advantage of such a unique venue and make it a truly special evening. We’ll play our smash hits, dust off some old chestnuts and add in a dash or two of experimental weirdness and hopefully channel a few lost souls to guide us through our set. The book signing starts at 8. We’re going on shortly after that. Make sure you come on out for what’s gonna be a strange & fun evening. The Shiproom is at 1 Millbury Street, Worcester, MA.
